Newsday has more details about the “Origins of Cyberspace” auction at Christie’s last week that brought in more than $700,000 from the sale of 133 out of 254 lots. Among the top sellers at the auction was a 1946 business plan by J. Presper Eckert and John Mauchly with designs for the first electronic computers ($72,000). As noted earlier on Corante, the highest-selling item was a sketch of an analytical engine by Charles Babbage from 1843, which sold to a private buyer for $78,000 ($65,000 plus a 20% auction house commission).
