After a week or so of speculation, IBM finally announced a major contract to supply the New York Stock Exchange with handheld devices, servers and software. According to the terms of the deal, NYSE brokers will use 3,000 IBM wireless handheld gadgets to buy and sell orders on the trading floor; in addition, traders will use high-powered Linux workstations to establish a real-time information flow between the exchange floor and trading desks.
